With the circuit breaker measures announced by the government, SMEs in particular have been hard hit, with many of them unable to operate at all, or only at much-reduced levels. We have been speaking to several business owners on the ground and heard first-hand the struggles they are going through to keep their businesses afloat in these difficult and uncertain times.

Since its establishment in 1995, the E50 Awards has always sought to be a platform to give back to local enterprises, who are the lifeblood of the Singapore economy, driving growth for the country. However, given the extraordinary circumstances that we are in, we have decided to postpone the launch of this year’s awards for at least a month so that businesses can focus on the immediate challenges that lie ahead of them.

We are firm believers in the resilience and unwavering entrepreneurial spirit of the Singapore business community. Together, we can work through this crisis and emerge stronger, ready to seize the opportunities that our recovery will bring.

We are hopeful that the E50 Awards will still take place this year. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and revisit the decision in May.

The Enterprise 50 Awards entered its 25th run in 2019, a long way to come for an annual award that celebrates the best of Singapore's privately held firms.

To date, more than 600 companies have been recognised at the E50 Awards. Several have graduated to become global firms, with a market presence in various parts of the world.

To mark the milestone, a Digital Economy award was introduced to give recognition to a firm that displays the potential to be a billion-dollar company. This was one of the three "special recognition" awards presented at the E50 Gala Dinner held at Resorts World Sentosa on Nov 26, 2019. The other two special recognition awards were "Special Recognition - Internationalisation" and "Special Recognition - Enterprise Transformation" awards.

The E50 Awards 2019 is jointly organised by The Business Times and KPMG in Singapore, sponsored by OCBC Bank and supported by Enterprise Singapore, Singapore Business Federation and Singapore Exchange. In this space, we feature some of the moments at the E50 Gala Dinner.
